Job Responsibilities: Performs a wide variety of moderately complex mechanical/structural removal, installation, repair and modification on aircraft. Interprets and follows engineering drawings, work instructions, assembly instructions and checks work correctness. Checks, tests and troubleshoots systems for conformance to specifications. Resolves installation problems. Also perform aircraft modifications per IAW military T.O.'s, commercial maintenance manuals, and service bulletins. Sets highest ethical standards for self and others. Basic Qualifications: Aircraft related Assoc degree or A&P license plus a minimum of 2 years exp as a sheet metal mechanic in the aircraft industry. With H/S or GED must have a minimum of 4 years experience as a sheet metal mechanic in the aircraft industry. Requires the ability to read, interpret and work from engineering drawings, blueprints, T.O. specs and engineering specifications. Ability to assemble close tolerance parts and use hand tools such as pneumatic drills and rivet gun. Must wear safety shoes. Must have own tools and tools must be shadowed. Mechanics conduct inspections following a schedule based on the number of hours the aircraft has flown, calendar days since the last inspection, cycles of operation, or a combination of these factors. They repair or replace worn or defective parts.

Two (2) years experience using commercial sewing machines, sergers and hand tools. Experience in aerospace industry preferred. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

1.Works under general supervision to fabricate, cover and install flat panels and curtains. Sew simple covers using design/engineering drawings and aircraft specifications.

2.Work with fabric, vinyl and leather hides, composites and other materials using specified adhesives, sewing equipment, hardware, hand tools and various power tools.

3.Fit panels and windows, cabin head liners, upper sidewalls, lower side panels, hatch panels, windows, cut and surge carpets, cover bulkheads, fabricate various metal parts, and covering and installation of panels.

4.Use the material tracking system to create parts demand, track squawks and to sign-off work.

5.Comply with safety, 5S, and housekeeping policies and use personal protective equipment as required. Address unsafe conditions before putting people or property at risk.

 

Additional Functions:

1.Works with lead and higher skilled technicians to develop and implement process improvements that increase safety, reduce, cost, cycle time, and man-hours using Lean Manufacturing and other process improvement techniques.

2.Performs other duties as required.

 

Other Requirements:

1.Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

2.Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering documentation.

3.Ability to use measuring tools and perform basic math computations.

4.Able to climb ladders and stairs, work in small restricted areas, lift up to 40 pounds and work any shift.
